Pro / Teams

Getting started with Canva

Setup takes less than two minutes for students. Faculty and staff access is provisioned by your department after a license is purchased.

1

Students: claim your free Pro account

Go to canva.com/education, click Get Canva for Education, and sign up or log in with your @utexas.edu email. Canva verifies your enrollment automatically.

2

Faculty/Staff: request a department seat

Submit a request through the UT Service Catalog or contact your college IT liaison. Once your seat is provisioned, you'll receive an invitation link to join your department's Canva team.

3

Open the UT Brand Kit

Once logged in, navigate to Brand in the left sidebar to access the UT Brand Kit. Your Burnt Orange palette, UT fonts, and official logos are ready to use in any design.

4

Start from a UT template

Browse the UT-branded template library for presentations, posters, social graphics, and reports — all pre-set with the correct colors and fonts. Customize and publish or export when ready.

Brand compliance note: The UT Brand Kit ensures your designs use approved colors and fonts, but always verify logos and wordmarks against the UT Brand Guidelines before publishing externally. When in doubt, reach out to UT Communications for review.

Tips for UT users

Brand Tip

Always start from the Brand Kit

Before touching any template, set your Brand Kit as active in the sidebar. This ensures every new element you add defaults to Burnt Orange, UT charcoal, and the approved type stack — saving significant cleanup time later.

Pro Feature

Use Magic Resize for multi-platform publishing

Design once, then use Magic Resize to instantly generate correctly-sized versions for Instagram, LinkedIn, email headers, and print — all from a single source design. A major time-saver for department comms.

Collaboration

Share a design link, not a file

Instead of exporting and emailing a PDF, share a Canva edit link with collaborators. They can comment, suggest edits, or co-edit in real time — no account required to leave comments.

Pro Feature

Background remover for headshots and assets

The one-click background remover works well for staff headshots, product images, and graphic elements. Export as PNG with transparency for use in presentations and documents.
